Silence of the Press: US media turns blind eye to RT crew arrest

An RT crew was locked up in a U.S. jail for 32 hours after filming a protest against a controversial military training facility in Georgia dubbed the School of Assassins. Reporter Kaelyn Forde described her treatment as ‘brutal’ and international organizations condemned the use of police violence against members of the media. But despite all the outrage, American mainstream media has remained silent. RT’s Gayane Chichakyan reports.

The dawn of a new age of muckraking

    Luke Rudkowski
    Russia Today
    December 3, 2009

Today, talking heads, corporations, governments, editors and publishers no longer make the definitive judgment on what is news and what is not. More than 100 years after Upton Sinclair wrote his muckraking book “The Jungle,” the tradition of muckraking has a new life on the Internet.

Sinclair set out on a daunting task: to infiltrate the meatpacking industry in Chicago. He took months off from work and immersed himself in the business, working undercover to expose the gross mistreatment of workers. Sinclair gave vivid details about immigrant life in Chicago, depicting poverty and homelessness and exploitation by the powerful.

Today, all it takes to create an expose is a laptop and a camera, or even just a cell phone. Anyone can take video and upload it to YouTube for the world to see. This accessibility opens up the possibility of an uncontrolled flow of information around the world.

The people now have eyes and ears all over the world, and are waiting to broadcast. This gives them an advantage over the mainstream media, which cannot always be at the right place at the right time. This exposure allows humanity to see and understand issues more clearly than ever, as events unfold in front of our very eyes from all perspectives.

The mainstream media occasionally misses big stories that rock society – either by negligence or on purpose – that online activists uncover. For example, in his book “Here Comes Everybody,” Clay Shirky details how bloggers brought down Trent Lott.

“This would have been a classic story of negative press coverage altering a political career – except that the press didn’t actually cover the story,” Shirky writes. It was the bloggers that picked up on Lott’s racist remarks during his speech at Storm Thurmond’s 100th birthday party, which eventually cost Lott his leadership position in the Senate.

Recently, a groundbreaking story coined “Climategate” spread like wildfire through the Internet before making its way into mainstream media. This story concerned emails between scientists who produce studies to support theories of global warming. In the emails, the scientists were openly discussing destroying studies that didn’t support their theories.

This scandal, which was brought to the world’s attention thanks to the Internet, severely damages the validity of the global warming theory. If it weren’t for the Internet, this story might never have seen the light of day.

Major media outlets have not continued the tradition of muckraking for many reasons. It is a lot more efficient for a news organization to keep a reporter in the office writing news stories every day than to send him away for six months on a reporting trip that may only produce three stories.

It also has a lot to do with corporate relations. A news organization run by a corporation does not want to rock the boat and go after other large corporations to which they may have ties. It is impossible for a news agency to report fairly on an issue when their profits are involved. The news programs have been caught many times suppressing stories because their sponsors would be negatively affected by the media attention.

Corporations are only interested in profit and that’s why we have seen them forget about muckraking journalism – it is not profitable. Judith and William Serrin said it best in “Muckraking: The Journalism That Changed The World:” “Some publishers and broadcast executives might as well be selling shoes as selling news.”

Today, five corporations control nearly 90 percent of the mainstream media. Almost everything we see, hear or read in newspapers, magazines, books, radio and television is owned by Time Warner, Disney, News Corporation, Bertelsmann or Viacom. The democratization of information via the Internet could not have come at a better time.

The Internet not only allows us a greater and richer perspective on events, but covers events that would naturally be censored by the mainstream media and their corporate interests. It gives activists an opportunity to see, hear and smell for the people, looking out for the masses and at the same time exposing the elite. This threatening wave of truth can not only end the profits of the five information-controlling corporations, but reform and revolutionize society. Once the people fully recognize the potential of this tool to express their grievances, they will be an unstoppable force.

Day by day, more information is controlled by fewer hands – but because of technology, there are no longer any gatekeepers. We are able to get a rich abundance of perspectives and views online that help us grasp and understand important events in our history as they unfold. The Internet has become more effective than traditional media. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, it still makes a sound. With the help of the Internet, today a single isolated tree can make so much noise that the whole world will hear it.

Google to limit free news access

Newspaper publishers will now be able to set a limit on the number of free news articles people can read through Google, the company has announced.

The concession follows claims from some media companies that the search engine is profiting from online news pages.

Under the First Click Free programme, publishers can now prevent unrestricted access to subscription websites.

Users who click on more than five articles in a day may be routed to payment or registration pages.

“Previously, each click from a user would be treated as free,” Google senior business product manager Josh Cohen said in a blog post.

This may still be a significant moment in the battle between old and new media
    Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent

“Now, we’ve updated the programme so that publishers can limit users to no more than five pages per day without registering or subscribing.”

Google users may start seeing registration pages appear when they click for a sixth time on any given day at websites of publishers using the programme, according to Mr Cohen.

This will only affect websites that currently charge for content.

    ‘Significant move’

The announcement is seen as a reaction to concerns in the newspaper industry that Google is using newspaper content unfairly.

Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of Newscorp, has accused firms such as Google of profiting from journalism by generating advertising revenue by linking readers to newspaper articles.

Some readers have discovered they can avoid paying subscription fees to newspaper websites by calling up their pages via Google.

This is because Google searches frequently link directly to newspaper articles, bypassing some sites’ subscription systems.

Broadcasting and media consultant Steve Hewlett said that Google’s response was “a pretty significant move”.

“Rupert Murdoch is trying to build a consensus that paying for content online is right and that aggregators like Google that use newspaper content but don’t pay for it are doing something wrong,” he said.

    Search for revenue

Newspapers are increasingly looking for new ways to make money from their online content amid a continuing decline in circulation figures and advertising revenues.

Earlier this week Johnston Press, the UK’s largest regional newspaper publisher, announced plans to to begin charging for access to six of its titles online.

The move follows a 42% slump in advertising revenues at the group over the last two years.

Earlier this year, the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) cut 1,000 jobs at its regional arm Northcliffe Media, which publishes more than 100 newspapers in England and Wales.

Newscorp, which owns the Times and the Sun newspapers in the UK, has also been affected by the downturn.

In June, it announced losses of $3.4bn (£2bn) for the previous 12 months, describing the year as “the most difficult in recent history”.

It has also revealed plans to begin charging for access to all its online content. The corporation currently charges for access to its US title the Wall Street Journal.

    CNN Spreads Detention Camp Disinfo

    Camp FEMA
    December 1, 2009

In a new CNN report deeply rooted in Department of Homeland Security propaganda, CNN’s John Acosta says that the Federal government is not building detention camps around the country and that there is absolutely no proof of these kinds of activities. However, a highly controversial documentary released a couple of months ago offers the viewers almost 90 minutes of heart-stopping proof that plans for martial law and FEMA camps are indeed very real.

“Camp FEMA” has been called the most comprehensive documentary made on the topic of concentration camps in America. In the opening moments of the film, viewers are very quickly reminded that our government has turned to the use of detention camps to solve its problems before with the forced detention of over 120,000 Americans of Japanese decent in the early 1940’s. Forced labor, compulsory vaccinations, and mandatory “Americanization” classes top the list of atrocities committed against fellow citizens, on behalf of their Federal government.

The movie is kicked off by a single question, “Is it possible that history could repeat itself?”

Senate Select Committee Hearings and official FBI documents echo the rhetoric spewed forth by DHS and MIAC reports that transform patriot-minded third party supporters into dangerous potential terrorists of the homegrown variety. White House policies classify homeschoolers, gun rights activists and anti-abortionists as threats against the existing social and political order, by default creating an entire nation of radicals and revolutionaries – where everyone is a suspect… equally guilty until proven otherwise. History shows us what tyrannical governments have done with these people in the past.

CNN’s John Acosta also forgot to mention H.R. 645 introduced in early 2009 by Rep. Alcee Hastings, a Democrat from Florida convicted of bribery charges. In Camp FEMA, the audience learns the true meaning of “Emergency Centers.” The intent of the national emergency centers, according to Section 2 of HR 645, is to meet, “…for an extended period of time the housing, health, transportation, education, public works, humanitarian and other transition needs of a large number of individuals affected by an emergency or major disaster…” and can be used to advance “other purposes” not defined in the bill.

    • A d v e r t i s e m e n t
    • efoods

H.R. 645 is specific. If the ”Relocation Center” is to be a closed military installation, the installation will no longer be under the Secretary of Defense, but the jurisdiction will be transferred to the Secretary of Homeland Security. As “relocation centers” will be established in the wake of a “national emergency,” the center should then fall under FEMA. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, is the emergency response arm of the Federal Government. Established during the Carter Administration to respond to national emergencies and disasters, and under the Bush administration FEMA was brought under the Department of Homeland Security.

If CNN and Acosta needed more proof, they should check out Army Regulation 210-35, which was set up during the Reagan Presidency, and surfaced under the Clinton Administration. According to Alex Jones, who appears in Camp FEMA, there are now 12 camps completed and ready to house American citizens.

Also ignored in the CNN report is the participation of NORTHCOM in creating an advertisement, run earlier this year, on the Army National Guard’s own website. For the first time in U.S. history, there has been an army unit assigned to The United States. NORTHCOM, according to an article in The Army Times “…may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios…” The ad for a “Corrections Officers and Internment/Resettlement Specialists” was removed in mid August. Camp FEMA points out that the ad was specific with regard to the needs of the National Guard; someone to train “as Internment Settlement Specialists, to control and supervise detainees.”

CNN has conveniently chosen not to address the legislations, the government reports or the list of terror suspects that the US government keeps adding to a database on a daily basis. “You don’t keep a list unless you intend to use it,” said William Lewis writer of Camp FEMA. Producer Gary Franchi added, “There are now over 1.2 millions names on the DHS watch list. How did we let this happen in the United States of America?” Why is CNN deliberately misleading the public about internment camps? You may find the answers in Camp FEMA.

Dear Main Stream Media, Climategate Story’s Not Going Away

    Conservative for Change
    November 30, 2009

    Dear Main Stream Media,

We know you are doing your best to cover this up. It is understandable, but very immoral. Instead of focusing on one of the biggest scientific scandals ever, and identifying the real scoundrels involved, you have given in to both corporate and governmental pressure. A lot of big companies pay you a great deal of money to advertise their products and they really want to continue the lies about the existence of global warming that they have helped perpetuate. Governments have their own shady agendas.

What you must understand is that WE THE PEOPLE are not letting this go! We will get the word out and we will make sure the truth is told, even if you stopped doing that long ago.

Ten Swine Flu Lies Told by the Mainstream Media

    Mike Adams
    Natural News
    September 19, 2009

The mainstream media is engaged in what we Americans call “bald faced lies” about swine flu. It seems to be true with this issue more than any other, and it became apparent to me recently when a colleague of mine — a nationally-syndicated newspaper columnist — told me their column on natural defenses for swine flu was rejected by newspapers all across the country. Many newspapers refused to run the column and, instead, ran an ad for “free vaccine clinics” in the same space.

The media, it seems, is so deeply in bed with the culture of vaccinations that they will do almost anything to keep the public misinformed. And that includes lying about swine flu vaccines.

There are ten key lies that continue to be told by the mainstream media (MSM) about swine flu and swine flu vaccines.

Lie #1 – There are no adjuvants used in the vaccines

I was recently being interviewed by a major U.S. news network when the reporter interviewing me came up with this humdinger: There are no adjuvants being used in the swine flu vaccines, he said!

I assured him that adjuvants were, indeed, a crucial part of the vaccine recipe, and they were being widely used by drug companies to “stretch” the vaccine supply. It’s no secret. But he insisted he had been directly told by a drug company rep that no adjuvants were being used at all. And he believed them! So everything being published by this large news network about swine flu vaccines now assumes there are no adjuvants in the vaccines at all.

Lie #2 – The swine flu is more dangerous than seasonal flu

This lie is finally starting to unravel. I admit that in the early days of this pandemic, even I was concerned this could be a global killer. But after observing the very mild impact the virus was having on people in the real world, it became obvious that this was a mild flu, no more dangerous than a seasonal flu.

The MSM, however, continues to promote H1N1 swine flu as being super dangerous, driving fear into the minds of people and encouraging them to rush out and get a vaccine shot for a flu that’s really no more likely to kill them than the regular winter sniffles. Sure, the virus could still mutate into something far worse, but if it does that, the current vaccine could be rendered obsolete anyway!

Lie #3 – Vaccines protect you from swine flu

This is the biggest lie of all, and the media pushes it hard. Getting a vaccine, they insist, will protect you from the swine flu. But it’s just flat-out false. Even if the vaccine produces antibodies, that’s not the same thing as real-world immunity from a live virus, especially if the virus mutates (as they often do).

As I pointed out in a recent article, statistically speaking the average American is 40 times more likely to be struck by lightning than to have their life saved by a swine flu vaccine. (http://www.naturalnews.com/026955_s…)

Lie #4 – Vaccines are safe

And how would any journalists actually know this? None of the vaccines have been subjected to real-world testing for any meaningful duration. The “safety” of these vaccines is nothing more than wishful thinking.

The MSM also doesn’t want you to know what’s in the vaccines. Some vaccines are made from viral fragments grown in diseased African monkeys. If that sounds incredible, read the true story here: http://www.naturalnews.com/026779_s…

    Lie #5 – The vaccine isn’t mandatory

You hear this lie all the time: The swine flu vaccine shot is voluntary, they say. But it’s not true if you’re an employee at a place where vaccines are being mandated. Millions of Americans are now being told by their employers that if they don’t get vaccine shots, they will be effectively fired from their jobs. It’s especially true with health care workers, day care employees and school teachers.

Lie #6 – Getting a vaccine shot is a good bet on your health

In reality, a vaccine shot is far more likely to harm you than help you. According to one viral expert, the actual mortality rate of the swine flu virus is estimated to be as low as .007 percent (http://www.reuters.com/article/heal…). That means H1N1 swine flu kills less than one person in 100,000. Even if the vaccine works, let’s say, 10 percent of the time, you’d have to vaccine one million people to prevent one death from swine flu.

And in vaccinating one million people, you would inevitably harm or kill several people, simply from the vaccine side effects! Your net risk of death is increased by getting a swine flu vaccine.

Lie #7 – The vaccine isn’t made with “attenuated live virus”

When the swine flu vaccines were first being announced several months ago, they were described as being made with “attenuated live virus.” This was directly mentioned in CDC documents, among other places.

This term apparently freaked out the American news consumer, and it has since been all but erased from any discussion about vaccines. Now, journalists will actually argue with you and insist the vaccines contain no attenuated live viruses whatsoever.

Except they’re wrong. The vaccines are, indeed, made with “attenuated live viruses.” That’s how you make a vaccine: You take live viruses, then you weaken them (”attenuate”) and inject them into people.

Lie #8 – Wash, wash, wash your hands (to avoid exposure)

This idea of washing your hands a hundred times a day is all based on the assumption that you can avoid exposure to the swine flu virus. But that’s impractical. The virus is now so widespread that virtually everyone is certain to be exposed to it through the air if not other means. This whole idea of avoiding exposure to the swine flu virus is nonsense. The conversation should shift to ways to survive exposure via a healthy immune system.

Of course, hand washing is a very good idea in a hospital setting. Recent news reveals that doctors are too busy to wash their own hands, resulting in the rampant spread of superbugs throughout most large hospitals in first world nations.

Lie #9 – Children are more vulnerable to swine flu than adults
This is just a flat-out lie, but it makes for good vaccine sales. Vaccines are right now being targeted primarily to schoolchildren.

But the truth is that swine flu is extremely mild in children. “It’s mildest in kids,” says Dr Marc Lipsitch of Harvard University. “That’s one of the really good pieces of news in this pandemic.” Reuters actually had the guts to report this story, but most of the larger media outlets are still reporting that children are the most vulnerable.

Lie #10 – There is nothing else you can do beyond a vaccine and Tamiflu

This is where the media lies by omission. The mainstream media absolutely refuses to print just about any story that talks about using vitamin D, anti-viral herbs or natural remedies to protect yourself from swine flu. In the MSM, there are two options and only two: Vaccines and Tamiflu. That’s it. No other options exist in their fictional reality.

Why is the mainstream media so afraid to print the truth these days? Why can’t reporting on swine flu see the light of day… literally, with a mention of sunlight and vitamin D? Apparently, Big Pharma has such a tight grip on mainstream newspapers that no true story on swine flu can ever make it past the editor’s desk.

    Killing stories, deceiving the public

It must really be depressing to work for the mainstream media. Even the reporters I know can’t stand it. The truth, they admit, rarely makes it into print.

Over the last few years, I’ve had a couple of job offers from large media outlets. They want to pay me a six-figure salary and stick me behind a desk where they can control what I report. Needless to say, I routinely reject those offers. If I can’t write the truth like I do here on NaturalNews.com, there’s no point writing at all. In too many ways, the mainstream media has become little more than a corporate mouthpiece, whoring itself out to the highest bidder / advertiser.

It’s no fault of the frontline reporters who actually work there. For the most part, they agree with what I’m saying. It’s the fault of the profit-oriented corporate mindset where news is about selling newspapers rather than actually informing the public.

Important news stories get killed every day in the newsrooms across America. They get killed not because they are poorly investigated or poorly written, but because they upset advertisers and corporate string pullers who shape the news and reject any stories that threaten their own financial interests.

Here in 2009, the distorted reporting on the swine flu vaccine has been one of the greatest media frauds ever perpetrated. The media has in every way contributed to the widespread ignorance of the American people on the subject of vitamin D and natural immune-boosting defenses that could reduce swine flu fatalities. Rather than informing readers, the MSM has made it a point to keep the people stupid, and in doing so, the media has failed its only mission and betrayed the very audience is claims to serve.

    New Obama Joker Poster

    Kurt Nimmo
    August 31, 2009

Steven Mikulan, who writes a blog for L.A. Weekly, owned by the “Clear Channel” of alt-weeklies, New Times Media, tells his readers in the city on fire that Alex Jones’ Obama Joker contest is all about left versus right.

    New Obama Joker

The new Obama Joker poster, designed by Jason Bermas. Click on the image to download a full-resolution version to print and put up in the public commons.

“This month radio show wingnut Alex Jones sponsored a contest in which listeners were encouraged to be videotaped putting up versions of the posters on public property,” writes Mikulan. “Jones’ Prison Planet blog declares, ‘Obama is a front man for a cartel of fascists, monopoly men, and determined eugenicists. This is not about black or white, left or right, it is about OUR FREEDOMS!’”

Mikulan — who apparently cannot tell the difference between a blog and a news website — informs us that “Any time someone like Jones says an issue is not about black or white, left or right, you can rest assured it’s exactly about those issues. And about the freedom to write in upper case letters with exclamation points.”

Funny guy, that Mikulan. But we wonder if this is his opinion or that of his overlords at New Times Media, a corporation fond of forcing noncompetition agreements on alternative weeklies. Competition, after all, is a sin for the monopoly men. Mikulan and his fellow scribes are treading on thin ice. It wasn’t that long ago that New Times Media conducted a purge at the Village Voice and fired constitutional icon Nat Hentoff along with music critic Robert Christgau and other long-time staffers. Hentoff in particular was apparently a bad fit for New Times Media and its plan to “mainstream” — render harmless and suitable for corporate advertising — the once bohemian standard bearer.

Mikulan may not get it — the Obama Joker poster, capitalization notwithstanding — is about freedom in a world increasingly gobbled up by monopoly men intolerant of dissenting views.

In order to keep the message rolling along — much to the chagrin of the establishment, including the alt-weeklies — Infowars is offering another Obama Joker poster, this one designed by Jason Bermas. Jason’s poster states the obvious — well, for some of us, those who do not take orders from corporate headquarters — the joke’s on us. That joke is a president who was installed by the CIA and takes his marching orders from the bankers.

No capitalization is required to get the message across.

The Joke’s On You: CNN Gulf War Propaganda

    August 27, 2009

The video here — covered by Alex Jones on his radio show — simply provides more evidence much of the news is propaganda and nonsense — and the joke is on us.

CNN’s Charles Jaco makes light of a fake Scud attack during the Gulf War.

Even the foundation-supported FAIR — recipient of grants from the Rockefeller Family fund — reported that the Pentagon is intimately involved in producing the “news.”

In February, 2002, FAIR reported: “Even if the PSYOPS officers working in the newsroom did not directly influence news reporting, the question remains of whether CNN may have allowed the military to conduct an intelligence-gathering mission against the network itself.”

The Dutch newspaper Trouw and France’s Intelligence Newsletter reported in 2000 that several officers from the US Army’s 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War.

    • A d v e r t i s e m e n t
    • efoods

In the 1980s, officers from the 4th Army PSYOPS group staffed the National Security Council’s Office of Public Diplomacy (OPD), a shadowy government propaganda agency that planted stories in the U.S. media supporting the Reagan Administration’s Central America policies, according to FAIR.

“CNN has always maintained a close relationship with the Pentagon.”

In fact, the entire corporate media is a subsidiary of the ruling elite, as evidenced by the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird.

“Starting in the early days of the Cold War (late 40’s), the CIA began a secret project called Operation Mockingbird, with the intent of buying influence behind the scenes at major media outlets and putting reporters on the CIA payroll, which has proven to be a stunning ongoing success. The CIA effort to recruit American news organizations and journalists to become spies and disseminators of propaganda, was headed up by Frank Wisner, Allen Dulles, Richard Helms, and Philip Graham (publisher of The Washington Post),” writes Mary Louise for Prison Planet. “Media assets will eventually include ABC, NBC, CBS, Time, Newsweek, Associated Press, United Press International (UPI), Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps-Howard, Copley News Service, etc. and 400 journalists, who have secretly carried out assignments according to documents on file at CIA headquarters, from intelligence-gathering to serving as go-betweens. The CIA had infiltrated the nation’s businesses, media, and universities with tens of thousands of on-call operatives by the 1950’s.”

    McKinney Kidnapping Ignored By Media

Had it not been for twitter, I doubt that I would even have been aware that Cynthia McKinney was held hostage in Israel after attempting to deliver aid and supplies to the Palestinians.  There has been a resounding silence on this issue as CNN, MSNBC and other mainstream media sources rush to give us the latest news on the death of Michael Jackson.

Jackson was truly an iconic figure, however the man is dead and Cynthia is alive. His memorial is receiving massive coverage and the announcement that his body would be present was considered breaking news. Even Palin’s resignation has garnered more media and internet attention.  Though McKinney is safely back on US soil, her wellbeing during her ordeal was of little concern.

As celebrities and media personnel rush to speak about the ways in which Michael Jackson transcended race, the erasure of the plight of McKinney proves that race and gender continue to divide the country.

Murdoch CEO Labels Bloggers Political Extremists 010709top

A stinging attack by John Hartigan, the CEO of Rupert Murdoch’s News Limited, labels bloggers and alternative media outlets as “political extremists”. Hartigan implies that bloggers should be jailed as they are in oppressive police states like China and Burma.

In a speech to the National Press Club, Hartigan savagely dismissed blogs as, “Something of such little intellectual value as to be barely discernible from massive ignorance.”

Bloggers don’t go to jail for their work. They simply aren’t held accountable like real reporters….It could be said the blogosphere is all eyeballs and no insights,” barked Hartigan.

“In the blogosphere, of course, the mainstream media is always found wanting. It really is time this myth was blown apart.”

“Blogs, and a large number of comment sites, specialise in political extremism and personal vilification. Radical sweeping statements without evidence are common.”

Hartigan doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that the mainstream media is always found wanting because they habitually lie about news events and spin stories to suit the demands of their corporate owners. This is the very reason why blogs and alternative media outlets have become so popular and have eaten into the mainstream media’s audience share, because people are sick of being treated like idiots, sick of being lied to, and are desperately in search of the truth.

Indeed, Hartigan’s boss Rupert Murdoch confessed to the fact that his media empire tried to shape public opinion to support the war in Iraq In other words, Murdoch’s many prominent news outlets wantonly put out propaganda supporting the manufactured case for invasion. Murdoch admitted to this while lamenting the corporate media’s “loss of power” to alternative media and Internet blogs, seemingly unaware of the fact that the two are directly connected.

When the people know that the corporate media is deliberately lying to them about Niger yellowcake and weapons of mass destruction, they are going to seek alternative avenues of information. The fact that the corporate media habitually lies is a manifestly provable reality, not a “myth” as Hartigan ludicrously claims.

In addition, while mainstream media routinely uses anonymous sources and little more than bluster and hot air to back up their stories, blogs provide links to almost every claim they make so readers can research the source evidence for themselves. This is the opposite from Hartigan’s claim that blogs make “radical sweeping statements without evidence.” Indeed, this phrase perfectly characterizes tactics employed by the mass media on a daily basis.

The corporate media monopoly has terminal cancer and they are losing their power to blogs and alternative media, which is why people like Hartigan are so angry and also why the establishment is aggressively moving to phase out the old Internet altogether and replace it with “Internet 2,” a highly regulated and controlled electronic Berlin wall, where alternative voices will be silenced and giant corporate propaganda organs will dominate once again.

As blogger Darryl Mason writes today, “John Hartigan is full of shit. Bloggers have gone to jail for their work, and to protect their sources, in North Korea, Iran, Egypt, the list of countries persecuting bloggers grows longer by the week. And the CEO of Australia’s biggest news corporation doesn’t know this?”

The jailing of bloggers for speaking too much truth is obviously not the kind of news that John Hartigan, a Rupert Murdoch CEO, is interested in. How could he not know about those jailing and prosecutions.

    Remember those words. “Political extremism”.

You will hear that call more and more as the major news corporations scale up their war against independent media, and bloggers.

The source of the establishment’s move to claim that bloggers and alternative media outlets are “extremists” or at worst “terrorists,” as we first reported in September 2006, was a White House strategy document that the government had been following since 9/11.

In a September 5, 2006 speech President George W. Bush referred to the document as “an unclassified version of the strategy we’ve been pursuing since September the 11th, 2001,” that takes into account, “the changing nature of this enemy.”

The strategy paper on how to ‘win the war on terror’ cites “conspiracies” as one of the wellsprings of terrorism and threatens to “address” and “diminish” the problems they are causing the government in fulfilling their agenda.

This notion then reappeared in a March 2009 Homeland Security document entitled “Domestic Extremism Lexicon,” in which the “alternative media” is listed alongside other radical extremist groups with the implication that people who disagree with the mass media’s version of events are potential domestic terrorists.

According to World Net Daily, the DHS document was almost immediately rescinded, but the groups listed alongside Neo-Nazis, Aryan prison gangs and black power extremists again prove that the federal government is targeting American citizens who are merely knowledgeable about their rights and up on current issues as potential domestic terrorists to be treated as a “threat” to law enforcement.
